BackTempo Sensor · Support
A quick answer.
Back to your work.
Help for the Mac App Store edition of BackTempo Sensor. macOS 13 or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel.
Where is the app window?
Sensor lives in the macOS menu bar and has no Dock icon. Click its icon or readings in the top bar to open the dashboard. If it is hidden behind the camera area on a MacBook, free up menu bar space or select fewer indicators.
How do I switch views?
Use the view button in the dashboard header to cycle through Compact view, Charts and Large charts. You can also select a layout in Settings. The last choice is saved.
How do I choose my indicators?
Open Settings with the gear button. Each metric has independent Show card and Show in menu bar controls. Use the up and down arrows to reorder metrics. Storage and memory can show free, used or both values in GB or MB.
The disk number differs from another utility
Sensor uses the system volume’s available capacity, including space macOS expects to reclaim, and decimal GB/MB. It rounds the displayed value to the nearest whole number: 56.81 GB becomes 57 GB. Compare it with available storage in macOS System Settings after both readings refresh. Utilities that report only physical free blocks can show a different number.
What does available memory mean?
Available RAM is an estimate based on free and inactive memory pages. It is not the Memory Pressure graph in Activity Monitor. Large charts also show wired, physically compressed, active and inactive memory details.
Why is swap zero or unavailable?
macOS allocates swap as needed, so zero usage can be normal. Unavailable means the system did not provide the reading; Sensor does not replace it with a false zero.
Network speed is zero or looks different
Wait for at least two updates so Sensor can calculate a rate. It totals active physical Wi-Fi/Ethernet interfaces, excludes VPN and loopback interfaces, and shows device traffic rather than just this app’s traffic. Another utility may count a different set of interfaces.
There is no battery card or temperature reading
Battery readings appear only when a supported built-in battery is available. Desktop Macs normally have no battery card. The Mac App Store edition does not show hardware temperatures, individual process statistics or fan controls.
Readings stopped updating
Check whether monitoring is paused, then use Resume or Refresh. In Settings, check the update interval (3, 5, 10 or 30 seconds). Update to the latest app build and reopen Sensor if the issue continues.
How do I start Sensor at login?
Enable Launch at login in Sensor Settings. macOS may ask you to allow the login item. You can review it in System Settings → General → Login Items.
What should I include in a support request?
Email [email protected] with the Sensor version, your macOS version, Mac model and the steps that reproduce the issue. You may use Copy Report and review its system summary before including it. Sensor never sends that report automatically.
