Our principles
BackTempo Link is local-first. We do not include advertising SDKs, sell personal information or inspect transferred content for advertising. An account is not required for nearby LAN pairing and transfer.
Local mode and device trust
Nearby discovery uses the local network. Pairing stores the device name, platform, identifiers and public cryptographic keys needed to recognize a trusted device. Private keys remain in secure operating-system storage. File and clipboard content is encrypted before direct transfer and is saved only to the destination chosen by the receiving user.
Optional internet mode
Sign in with Apple or Google links your signed-in identity to the devices you choose to trust. BackTempo Link does not receive or store your Apple or Google password.
Content transferred over the internet remains end-to-end encrypted. Only the paired sending and receiving devices hold the keys required to read it.
Photo and video archive
Mobile photo permission is used only to read media selected or authorized for one-way backup to a trusted computer. BackTempo filters the archive to supported photo and video types. It does not delete, modify or reorganize originals in the phone library. The Mac stores archive state so a destination copy deleted from the archive can be identified and copied again.
Storage and retention
Preferences, trusted-device records, transfer history and photo reconciliation data are stored locally until you remove them or uninstall the app. Information required for signed-in features is kept only while needed to provide those features, maintain security and prevent abuse. Transferred content is not used for advertising or profiling.
Your choices
You can use LAN mode without an account, revoke photo or local-network permissions in system settings, forget a trusted device, sign out, clear history and remove received files. Deleting a destination copy does not delete the original on the sending phone.
Deleting your internet account
Signed-in users can request deletion in the app: on Mac, Settings → Internet transfers → Delete account; on iPhone and Android, Settings → Delete account. Apple users reauthenticate with the same Apple account; Google users confirm using their current authenticated session.
Deletion revokes internet pairings and sessions, cancels pending cloud transfers, removes their encrypted stored objects and deletes server-side account, identity, device and usage records. If storage or signaling cleanup cannot finish, deletion remains pending and the app can retry or check its status. A completed deletion receipt contains only a session-token hash, state and timestamps, with no user ID, and expires after seven days.
Deleting the internet account does not erase local-only pairings, received files, local photo archives, phone originals or local transfer history. Those remain under your control on your devices.
Children
BackTempo Link is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under the age required to consent to online services in their jurisdiction.
